‘Sanford and Sons’
Sunday morning I was halfway finished with a scrumptious ‘truck-driver-size’ mushroom-cheese-onion omelet when I noticed a most intriguing-looking pick-up truck pull in and park right outside the window. Should you recall the TV Sitcom ‘Sanford and Son’ (featuring Redd Fox as a junk dealer) you have the picture: mattresses, bicycles and miscellaneous belongings tied-down and sandwiched together between homemade wooden side-walls.
Even more intriguing was the attire of the man and two young boys who punctually entered the café. All three were impeccably clad in western attire: cowboy hats and shirts, bright red neckerchiefs, polished boots, etc. I don’t believe they had a molecule of dust on them! As they entered the café and removed their hats, I couldn’t help but notice that their hair was slicked-down and impeccably combed - I mean these three were absolutely ‘squeaky clean.’
After Dad and his sons sat down and ordered breakfast, although I certainly sensed no negativity from their table, I could not help but notice they certainly did not ‘waste words.’ They emitted far more silence than conversation. Although I did sense that harmony and connection linked Dad and his boys, verbal communication did not appear to be their foremost approach to cultivating family relations.
Soon after delivering their breakfasts, our waitress brought my check. I had developed enough rapport with her over the previous 24 hours that I felt comfortable softly asking her the bozo-question of the day (or week): ‘are they heading to a church service or what?’ With Dad and his sons out of earshot -and honoring that I was actually ‘the inquisitive one from another planet’- our waitress quietly explained: “no he’s one of the Buckaroos in the area; when there is no more work on one ranch he packs his boys and all their belongings into the truck and they go from ranch to ranch until being hired once again.”
This not only explained their spotless attire (what I had interpreted as their ‘Sunday-best’), but also confirmed the opinion I’d heard that ‘not much has changed in Northern Nevada--Southeastern Oregon for decades.’ Indeed for a city-boy like Richard this was like going back in time, a far simpler time that one could not possibly appreciate from perusing the pages of a history book.
‘An Element of Early Retirement’
I share this story because it genuinely reveals a fundamental component of my ‘early retirement.’ As I walked to the cash register to pay my bill, spirit clearly spoke to me saying ‘pay for their breakfast as well.’ The inspiration of doing so felt ‘naturally right’ therefore without hesitation, with no ego involved, with absolutely no strings attached, I asked the cashier to include their meals on my bill, which is exactly what we did. It felt good, it felt right, it felt like a guided act of ‘paying it forward.’ I departed the café with an overwhelming feeling of warmhearted fulfillment.
Approximately 20 minutes later, my folding bicycle and suitcase already stowed in the aircraft for the flight home, for the most part I’d forgotten about my short-lived act of graciousness. I was checking the aircraft oil level when I heard a honk-honk from the old Chevrolet pickup. Sure enough Dad gave me a modest head-nod and smile as the boys gawked at the man with the airplane. As I relive that magical moment today, the memory once again brings tears of joy to my eyes as I see them rambling down the dusty road, tummies full, headed for the next ranch.
Although it truly was just ‘a fleeting moment’ the connection I felt with their Inner-Beings during that short-lived honk-honk and eye contact had me floating on air for days. Regardless of any cultural diversity, ‘Giving without Expectation’ was a remarkable spiritual experience, allowing us to connect on a Soul-to-Soul level. Although I truly had no agenda beyond following spirit’s lead, as I wiped the heartfelt tears from my cheeks the thought entered my mind that perhaps my simple generosity will begin a day of enchanting momentum for Dad and the boys. Departing the dirt airstrip on that note, I’m certain I encountered ancillary lift beneath my wings.
‘Giving Without Expectation’
What I’m scratching at is a magnificent principle that I know to be true: Giving without Expectation is perhaps the most expedient method I’ve experienced for stepping into your own personal Field of Abundance.
Today I realize these seeds were planted in childhood when I often felt the undeniable nudge to ‘treat’ others. Recall in the opening chapter I mentioned ‘I always enjoyed the look on Brother Bob’s face when I handed him one of those grand Stanford Stadium Hot Dogs.’ As with ‘Sanford and Sons,’ the ‘magic in the air’ I experienced plus the warm-inner-feeling of connection was indeed the joyous union between our Inner Beings. These delightful feelings confirmed that I was indeed seeing and experiencing my world in full collaboration (vibrational harmony) with my Non-Physical Counterpart.
Reflecting back to my Chiropractic Career, some of my greatest memories and rewards were taking care of children for free, plus individuals and families who could not otherwise afford care. As with the Buckaroo Family, in the clinic I did not depend on my intellect in deciding who to reduce my fee for or to accept as a charity case. Nor did my generosity have anything to do with ‘being a hero.’ In these cases, I invariably encountered a heart-felt guidance emanating from the Greater Part of Me. Again, I maintained no particular agenda beyond doing my best to follow spirit’s lead. I innately knew Giving without Expectation was a most expedient method for stepping into my own personal ‘Field of Abundance.’
A more current example began a year ago when I decided to eliminate our Fee System and offer all Golden Bridge Classes on a Love Offering Basis. This eliminates all monetary hurdles because attendees now place their tuition, based upon their seminar experience as well as their ability to pay, in a confidential envelope. Then we divide 50% of the collection among the Animal Shelter, the Deschutes Land Trust and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Since allowing this shift, our ‘Abundance Quotient’ has been greatly amplified, not only in ‘coin’ but also in frequent personal blessings. Another prime example of the Universal Law of Attraction in action.
As we explored ‘The Allowing State’ in Chapter 44, I stated that perhaps the most important Abraham principle relative to molding the clay of your future is: “Your Vibrational Offering NOW directly impacts your rendezvous with all ‘Future Probabilities’ (desires) you have launched since birth.” I personally believe that ‘Giving without Expectation’ helps guarantee all the Joyful dreams that I have launched into my Vibrational Escrow will one-day manifest, visions such as perpetual outrageous health, and flying our plane well into my 80’s.
| Encountering ‘The Buckaroo Family in Denio’ indeed reflects one of the components of my ‘early retirement.’ May this book inspire and empower you to clarify your dreams and initiate your own retirement sooner than later. |
